ECRA resigns from MIRANET:
At the May meeting of MIRANET a proposal by the Governance Committee was made to change the structure of MIRANET to involve more of its members in the running of the organization. The Governance Committee had become increasingly concerned that the running of MIRANET was being dominated by the Secretary and a small group of her supporters. The proposal was soundly defeated by the Steering Committee at its May meeting, leaving in place a continuation of the status quo.
As a result of this decision three members of the Governance Committee, including Peter Walton, the President of ECRA, resigned from the Steering Committee. The ECRA Board also further reviewed its position and concluded that continued membership in MIRANET exposed ECRA to risks of being associated with public MIRANET positions with which it did not agree. The Board decided it did not want to run that risk and decided unanimously to withdraw from MIRANET. ECRA notified MIRANET of its decision in mid-May.
Sawmill Valley Conservation Project:
Four directors of ECRA attended a public information session held in Mid-June regarding a proposed project to improve erosion control on the stretch of Sawmill Creek between Burnhamthorpe Road and the footbridge at Swallowdale Court. A City engineer and a representative of Calder Engineering discussed a number of alternatives for remediating the erosion and asked for feedback from attendees on their preferences.
The ECRA group discussed the remediation options and came to the conclusion that it preferred the least disruptive and invasive option. This was the option to do spot repairs to the Creek banks where needed and to remove any problem trees on a selective basis. ECRA communicated this decision to the City engineers in a letter dated June 24th. Since that time ECRA has not been informed of any further decisions on the type of project to be undertaken and

ECRA Annual Meeting:
The Board of ECRA agreed unanimously that the Association would not hold its Annual Meeting this year. Two principal reasons were given for this decision: the very poor attendance at the meeting in the past several years, and the absence of any burning issues affecting ECRA’s membership. If there are important issues that arise we will keep our members informed via the website and mailings to residents.
